The Dog & Cat Management Plan includes strategies to manage dogs and cats and sets out the Council’s responsibilities over a five year period.
Under the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995 (Act), all councils are required to produce a plan of management relating to dogs and cats within their local area. Each council’s Plan must be updated every five years.
The Council’s 2019-2024 Dog & Cat Management Plan includes strategies to manage dogs and cats across our City and sets out how the Council’s responsibilities under the Act will be addressed over the five-year life of the Plan.
The Plan takes into account local priorities and community feedback, and aims to promote and achieve responsible pet ownership of dogs and cats in the City. In particular, it explains the new legislative requirements relating to registration, microchipping and de-sexing.
The Council’s 2019-2024 Dog & Cat Management Plan was approved by the Council on 12 September 2018, and came into effect on 23 February 2019.
