Whether walking to work or out for a run, every moment Madeleine Coates spends in the world around her is fieldwork for her creative practice. She is constantly searching the urban landscape for evidence of the human hand. Working across disciplines of drawing, painting, and sculpture, she fuses tonal realist sensibilities with found objects to explore ideas of language, perception, and narrative.

Madeleine is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Visual Art at Adelaide Central School of Art, where she has participated in several exhibitions of student work. Her recent solo exhibition 'Something Has Happened Here' was held at the POD Gallery in September 2024. She was also the recipient of the Youth Prize in the Gallery One Smallacombe Self-Portrait Prize.
