Another renovated playground for the City of NPSP with Koster Park under construction

11/06/2024

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters will be home to another new playground with the installation of new facilities at Koster Park in Trinity Gardens.

Located between Ashbrook and Avonmore Avenues in the heart of Trinity Gardens, Koster Park was home to a pottery owned by German migrant Johann Koster, before it served for a brief time as a community centre in the former City of Payneham.

The Council has ensured that the redevelopment of the playground honours the Park’s rich history while ensuring it remains functional for years to come.

Mayor Robert Bria said the new playground is overdue for the popular park which hosts the Council’s annual Jazz in the Park event.

“Koster Park is a fantastic asset in our City and is very popular with young families in the local area. The construction of the new playground is an exciting development for the neighbourhood and will certainly enhance the amenity of the park,” he said.

The playground equipment includes:

  • main play structure with accessible ramp and platforms, junior straight slide, spiral tunnel slide; web tunnel; combat climber, wave bars, and climbing and challenge elements;

  • concord rope climber/spinner;

  • accessible carousel;

  • accessible dipper rocker and;

  • swing set with four swings (including one swing for a toddler and for a child of all abilities).

The selected colours of the play equipment are themed to brick and pottery colours, in keeping with the park's rich history. The ground surface will be a mix of rubber soft fall and pine chip soft fall.  The rubber soft fall will provide an accessible path between the entry gates and all of the play equipment elements.

Last month, the Council officially opened new facilities at Cruickshank Reserve in Maylands and next month Burchell Reserve, in St Peters, will be open in the public, with an official opening later in the year.
